Sample classes.

Adult classes have up to 20 students, kids' and teens' classes up to 12. Times change by session, and the booking page has this week's.

What a class is like

Warm up, drill, work with a partner, cool down

Every class follows the same four parts, in every lane. A coach explains each drill before you try it.

  1. 01

    Warm up

Rope, light movement and a few minutes of footwork, at a pace you can scale.

  2. 02

    Drill

One technique at a time, slowly, with a partner who is working with you.

  3. 03

    Pads or partner work

Strikes on pads, grips in the clinch or positions on the mat, depending on the class.

  4. 04

    Cool down

A few easy minutes to breathe, stretch and ask the coach anything.

Kids and teens

Their own classes, their own pace

Kids and teens never train with the adult classes. Parents watch from the bench, and every class starts and ends with a bow.

  • Children rolling across a mat in a grappling drill while their coach watches
    Ages 6 to 9

    Kids' grappling

Rolling, balance and positions on the mat, taught as games first and drills second. Classes run 45 minutes.

    • Classes of up to 12

    • No strikes and no submission holds

    • Parents on the bench

  • A child punching a focus pad held by a classmate while the coach looks on
    Ages 10 to 12

    Kids' pad work and grappling

Footwork, punches and kicks on pads held by a partner, then grappling positions. Nobody strikes a child, and nobody strikes to the head.

    • Pads and shields only

    • A coach in every drill

    • A waitlist when a class is full

  • A teen kicking a hand shield held by a coach
    Ages 13 to 17

    Teens' class

Pad work, clinch drills and grappling in one class. Teens drill with partners their size and do not spar.

    • Classes of up to 12

    • Two coaches on the mat

    • Moves to adult classes at 18

Questions

Before your first class

Can I watch a class first?

Yes. Parents and anyone thinking of joining can sit on the bench by the mat and watch any class.

What do I wear and bring to the first class?

A plain t-shirt, shorts or loose trousers, and a water bottle. Take off jewelry, tie hair back and leave shoes off the mat. Gloves and shin guards to borrow are at the front desk, and a coach helps you fit them.

How does sparring start, and what does contact level mean?

Level 1 is drills and pad work only. Level 2 adds light rounds with a partner your size, called by a coach. Level 3 adds longer rounds when you and your coach agree you are ready. A tap or the word stop ends a round at once.

Can adults and kids train together?

Kids, teens and adults train in their own classes. A family plan puts everyone under one agreement, and on Saturday mornings parents and kids can train at the same time in separate groups.

How does tuition work, and how do I cancel?

Tuition is set by the program, the lane you train in and how many classes a week. Adult plans start with three months, then run month to month, and kids' plans are month to month. You cancel in writing with 30 days' notice. The membership page has the rest.
