Questions

Before your first class

How old do I have to be?

Kids' classes are for ages 6 to 12, teens train at 13 to 17 in their own class, and adult classes are for ages 18 and up.

Can I watch a class first?

Yes. Parents and anyone thinking of joining can sit on the bench by the mat and watch any class.

What do I wear and bring to the first class?

A plain t-shirt, shorts or loose trousers, and a water bottle. Take off jewelry, tie hair back and leave shoes off the mat. Gloves and shin guards to borrow are at the front desk, and a coach helps you fit them.

What is a class like?

We warm up, drill one technique slowly, work with a partner on pads or on the mat, and cool down. A coach explains every drill before you try it.

How does sparring start, and what does contact level mean?

Level 1 is drills and pad work only. Level 2 adds light rounds with a partner your size, called by a coach. Level 3 adds longer rounds when you and your coach agree you are ready. A tap or the word stop ends a round at once.

Can adults and kids train together?

Kids, teens and adults train in their own classes. A family plan puts everyone under one agreement, and on Saturday mornings parents and kids can train at the same time in separate groups.

Do I need to be fit or flexible?

No. All fitness levels start here. Warm-ups run at an easy pace, and a coach shows you how to scale each drill.

How does tuition work, and how do I cancel?

Tuition is set by the program, the lane you train in and how many classes a week. Adult plans start with three months, then run month to month, and kids' plans are month to month. You cancel in writing with 30 days' notice. The membership page has the rest.

What if I miss a class?

Come to another class at your level that week. If you need to pause for travel, illness or an injury, tell the front desk.

Do you take part in competitions?

Competing is optional. Some students enter and many never do, and the coaches talk it through with anyone who is curious.

Still have a question?

Send a message, or book a class and ask at the door.
